We’re in our new home! We got into town at 2:15pm this afternoon, and immediately had a list of quick to-do’s, like securing space for the moving truck (which took an hour of dealing with stupid city government bureaucracy!), and then to get our keys and tour our new place, and finally to secure a parking spot in the best garage in town. Lucky us!
There have been several surprises, both good and bad, this afternoon. We walked in to tour our apartment and realized that our bedroom is quiet small (we’re technically sleeping in the den since it’s darker and quieter, therefore giving me a sunnier space to study, too!), and we have an electric stove (I did know this, but forgot; I feel that electric stoves are an unnecessary annoyance and ridiculous choice for any “luxury” building). However, there are of course some positives too, like the amount of light in our place is stunning, and we have so much walkable to us that I really feel we couldn’t have more near us living in NYC. We love the choice of restaurants, bars, wine bars, and shops all within super short walking distance. Awesome! So, you take the good with the bad, huh? We do feel like we are living in the hood (at least a little bit, lol), but I’m hoping I get used to that feeling).
The moving truck arrives at 8am, and I’m so excited to start getting settled in! We do like our new place, and our building is great. We have a gym! I will hopefully start using it, and burn off the pounds that I feel this road trip have put on!
It’s a good thing that today was our last driving day, because we were both going out of our mind! I missed every state sign along the way, but hey, at least I’m consistent! Seeing NYC as we drove along was quite cool, and I can’t wait to explore the city on weekends.
Here’s a photo of NYC as we were getting close to New Haven:
We managed to get our last license plate just 1/2 hour before we arrived – yay, all 50 states!
Thanks for being such a great source of encouragement along the way. This has been quite a journey, and I know for sure that I couldn’t have done it without my truly wonderful family and friends. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I’ll chat with you tomorrow, and wish those movers an easy unload would ya? It’s a bit challenging this time around!
Hugs from New Haven! xoxo

Welcome to your new home, Jenn
I’ve been out of town for a week so I just caught up on your road trip all at once. I loved reading your recaps – it definitely took me back to our road trip last summer and all the wonderful memories I have of that! I really enjoyed your photos of the places that we skipped! It sounds like the pros of your apartment outweigh the cons – I hope you’ll post some photos once you are all moved in!

Hey Jennifer,
I just found out from Tanya what you were up to and just had to come to your site – it’s awesome! You are in my old neck of the woods. I lived most of my life in CT, in a little town called Trumbull about 20 min south of New Haven. I’ve been to Yale many times; all of you pics from out there are recognizable to me. You are definitely going to have some adventures; it’s going to be great and you are going to do so well because that is who you are. New England is a very pretty part of the country and I think you’ll enjoy a lot of what you see. If you ever have a moment, I would love to hear from you. Take care, all the best and I’ll keep reading and sending comments!
Love, Pat xxoo
